Fruit, Fruta, or Frukt. Enjoy it.

As English teachers here in Nicaragua, Emily and I are always on the lookout for cognates (words that are almost identical in multiple languages).   This usually indicates a common root.  In the case of fruit the common root comes from the Latin frui, meaning “to enjoy”.

Thank you Latin!  With fresh mangos, avocados, tangerines, jocotes, pineapples everywhere I turn, I think I’ll do just that 🙂
