One of the highlights of having my parents visit us in Nicaragua for almost three weeks was seeing everything new through their eyes, and remembering similar reactions I had many months ago when everything was fresh and new. This was especially true with my Pappa! I came to have an even deeper understanding and appreciation for where I gained my openness/excitement for new experiences and my curiosity. Adding to our similiar personalities, the fact that we Nilsen Norwegians look quite a bit alike led many of the Nicaraguans we came in contact with to drop this dicho:
Hijo de tigre nace rayado – The son of the tiger is born striped.
I would be quick to follow up with another similar expression de tal palo, tal estilla (from such stick, such splinter). I think they have a point, and I couldn’t be happier to be the cub of such a goofy, inquisitive tiger 🙂
