Adventuring with the Nilsens

Our second family vacation of our “summer break” has been going fantastically.  We spent New Years in Granada with one of our favorite Granadina families and then we headed to Ometepe Island, the largest island in a fresh water lake in the world.  It also happens to be made of two volcanoes.  If you’ve seen the Pixar short “LAVA“….it’s exactly like that!  Between watching beautiful sunsets, games of Pinochle, exploring the little town of Mérida, and kayaking in a swamp/river to see the incredible wildlife, we enjoyed our adventuring and just spending quality time together.  We might LAVA each other.

  1. dear Andrew and Emily. Thank you for the nice wallet. I was in need of one, and I always appreciate ones that are homemade or made by friends. We have been seeing all of the pictures and evidence of the fun time that you had when Carla and Erik were visiting you.Looks like there are lots of beauty and marvels in that country. It is always too bad and I wonder why that those beautiful tropical countries that have so much potential also have so many poor and so much poverty.when you look around the world. I have often wondered if it has a lot to do with the climate. It sure seems like the tropical countries have their share of problems.

We are well. We have been quite busy with this new home that we bought. It’s fun, but somewhat of a challenge to bring it up to the fancy status where we hope to be and where we hope to be able to make a profit on it. It is big enough, and we hope will be fancy enough that it will bring a good price. It will have to be somebody that is fairly well-to-do and has an airplane. The runway is right next to the property and a pilot could taxi his plane right up to the back door.

We have had somewhat of a snowy winter the last month or so. More snow than usual, and it has just stayed on the ground rather than melt like it usually does. However the last several days have been quite nice and a lot of the snow has just melted.

We know you are doing good, as well as having fun. Our thoughts and love are with you. Love Gayle and Kathryn
