Peace Corps Holidays: Nicaragua

As a proud Midwesterner, I’m honored to have been asked to participate in a series of posts on the Midwest Peace Corps Volunteers blog about spending the holiday season abroad. As I explained my interview:

“It is difficult to not compare your holiday celebrations back home with the various ones in your host country. Simultaneously, it’s natural to feel homesick and long for the familiar. In reality, the holidays mean many different things to those back home as well. Even if you narrow it to one holiday, every family has their own traditions, their own way of doing things. My advice to help your season be merry and bright: creatively celebrate your own traditions and try to just throw yourself into as many community festivities during the month as possible. During the holidays, it’s all about Peace Corps Goals Two and Three.”
