I experienced my first real earthquake last night – a 7.3 quake with the epicenter off the coast of Nicaragua. Actually, I slept though most of it, but I won’t go into that. We’re all OK and for as big of a quake as it was, there isn’t a lot of damage throughout the country. It was Nica’s way of saying, “Happy 2 month anniversary Nica 64!”
Also, I explained subduction faults/zones and the workings of strato volcanoes to my spanish class today…in spanish! Once a science teacher, always a science teacher. If you want to learn more about the earthquake, the USGS has a great site with the most recent earthquakes here: http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/map/ Check it out!
